London’s team?

Undeterred by rugby league's seeming inability to transplant a game the British invented just 200 miles down the M1 motorway America's NFL seems to be seriously flirting with the idea of placing one of their franchises in London.

Having slowly built up the league's profile from preseason friendly games to this seasons pair of regular season match ups commissioner Roger Goddell is a big proponent of expanding the NFL. Flattered as London may be there's little doubt that its linguistic similarities are the prime reason moor it's popularity with Goodell who no doubt sees London as a gateway to the commercial opportunities in mainland Europe.

With both games sold out months in advance the commissioner will be looking hard at ailing US franchises such as Jacksonville and St.Luis, and wondering if he can trade the empty seats in Florida for eight sold out London games.

The Jaguars are scheduled to play in London for each of the next four seasons, taking the place of the St.Louis Rams who were the original selection of Goodell.

Whether or not this happens is a much discussed topic. But for the purposes of this blog I am going to assume it might. This post being the start of our extended Jacksonville Jaguars coverage for the 2013 NFL season.
