This autumn’s Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) six team European Cup tournament is promising to be the biggest and most exciting yet with a new title sponsor and more TV coverage than ever before.

The rugbyleague.com European Cup kicks off on Saturday October 17 and features Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Serbia, Lebanon and Italy. Games will be staged in six countries over a four week period.

Tickets for the rugbyleague.com European Cup Finals Day on Sunday November 8 at Brewery Field, Bridgend are now available by calling the RFL ticket hotline on 0844 856 1113 or visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk

The Finals Day will take place at Brewery Field, Bridgend on Sunday November 8. It will feature all six teams and three games from the tournament, including the final, will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

rugbyleague.com, which is a newly launched website that provides dedicated global coverage of Rugby League, have agreed a two year partnership with the RLEF which will see them support the tournament in 2009 and 2010.

Kevin Rudd, RLEF Executive and Development Officer said: “We’re very excited about the competition which will be staged in six countries and benefit from title sponsorship and more TV coverage than ever before.

“All the games in the competition are vitally important, so the level of intensity is expected to be extremely high. All teams will come together for a Finals Day in November which will not only determine the overall winners but the seedings for future international competitions such as qualification for the 2013 World Cup.

“The inclusion of Italy, Serbia and Lebanon in this year’s tournament should also act as incentive to other emerging Rugby League nations on what just can be achieved by competing in the European Shield or Bowl.

“We’re delighted to welcome rugbyleague.com on board as title sponsors and are extremely grateful to Sky Sports for broadcasting a number of the games to millions of homes.”

The six nations will be divided into two groups of three with each team playing each of the other teams in their group once.

On Saturday November 8 the tournament will climax with a ‘Finals Day’ at which the respective sides finishing third, second and top of each group will meet.

These matches will not only determine the ultimate champions but provide all important rankings for the 2010 European Cup which will include France and will see the eventual winners qualify for the 2011 Four Nations alongside England, Australia and New Zealand.

Andrew Whitelam, rugbyleague.com, Head of Content and Editorial, said:

“rugbyleague.com is delighted to be supporting the European Cup for the next two seasons. We believe the tournament will be highly competitive and extremely entertaining.

“As a media organisation that is totally committed to the sport, we are also delighted to support the RLEF’s excellent and successful work in promoting Rugby League throughout Europe. “We hope all supporters will enjoy following the action in the coming weeks on rugbyleague.com.”
