11Oct2006: The Captain’s LogTiger feat:
I was surprised to wake up today and find the ‘A’s in a hole after a sloppy performance by Barry Zito in the openening game of the ALCS.
I can only imagine the torture that Zito’s agent is enduring right now as the stock of the pitching phenom rises or falls on every playoff pitch. After peaking with a spectacular ALDS win over the Twins it dipped alarmingly last night when Zito was pulled in the 4th innings as Tiger bats prevailed.
In contrast Tiger coach. Jim Leland is ‘the Horse-whisperer’. His visit to the mound in the fourth innings visibly calmed starting pitcher Nate Robertson who had two ‘A’s runners on-base, threatening to spark an Oakland rally. Leland’s words – whatever was said – were enough to steady Robinson though, as he held the A’s scoreless through five innings to emerge with the win.
What a feelgood story it’d make if the Tigers could go all the way and clinch the World Series. Go Tigers, go!
